  Access for all

Cumbria – The Lake District offers many opportunities for visitors with disabilities to enjoy all aspects of this unique county. Many accommodation providers, restaurants and attractions have made a concerted effort to cater for visitors with disabilities and are more than happy to accommodate your own specific requirements

Peace of mind

You can be assured that advertisers on this site that display any of the national accessibility symbols below have been assessed according to the VisitBritain National Accessibility Scheme standards or have taken their own measures to cater for visitors with disabilities. If you have any additional needs or special requirements of any kind and to assist you in planning the perfect stay, we recommend that you contact your chosen establishment before you confirm your booking. There is a wealth of information available across the county for visitors with disabilities. Just ask at any Tourist Information Centre for local maps showing tailored areas, walks and facilities. Maps include areas for wheelchair access.

Accommodating visitors with disabilities
National Accessible Scheme
If a property has a National Accessible Scheme category it has been inspected for Mobility, Hearing and Visual Disability. Mobility assesses facilities for wheelchair users and those with difficulty walking, while Hearing and Visibility categories provide key additional services for those disabilities. In some cases these categories may apply only to a room and not an entire property.
