The UK's comprehensive network of motorways and 'A' roads means that Cumbria - The Lake District can easily be reached by car.
Typical journey times: From Newcastle - approx. 1 1/2 hours

Cumbria - The Lake District is serviced by a number of airports. With direct rail services to the area, Manchester is the most convenient. However if you are hiring a car, Blackpool airport is just 40 minutes away and Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham and Liverpool airports are all within a two/two and a half hour drive or a short journey by train.
